Cats’ Eye View

February 19, 2010

It’s Kobe here!  Of course I’m writing the blog AGAIN!  But I must admit I woke up extra early today so I could beat Ozzy at writing it!  I know, I know, I promise I’ll let Ozzy have a turn next week!

Ozzy and I were talking a lot about kittens this week since kitten season is approaching.  See, Ozzy and I won’t be able to father kittens…and although kittens are super cute and cuddly we are ok with that. See since being here at the APL we have seen so many stray and homeless animals come through our doors, we know we are helping by reducing the number of stray animals.

The APL is committed to decreasing the number of homeless, free-roaming cats living on the streets!  The Animal Welfare Clinic at the APL is a low-cost spay/neuter clinic that provides high-quality, affordable surgery to other animal welfare groups, rescue groups, animal shelters, and feral cat caregivers.

Help Our FriendsIn 2009, a total of 10,119 spay and neuter surgeries were performed here at the APL.  Of that number, 4,217 were Cleveland APL shelter animals that were sterilized before adoption.  The APL’s Animal Welfare Clinic performed 5,902 surgeries—4,359 were feral or homeless cats done through out Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program and 1,543 were from other rescue groups and shelters.

In addition, a total of 223 animals were spayed or neutered through the PetFix Mobile Clinic.  PetFix is a nonprofit mobile spay/neuter clinic that assists in reducing pet overpopulation by making spay/neuter surgeries affordable and accessible to low-income pet guardians, feral cat caregivers, and shelters and rescues in Noetheast Ohio.  What’s really cool is that PetFix provides its service once a month at the APL.  Trust me, you’ll know it’s here, you can’t miss it!

I know, I know, I sound so serious this week, but Ozzy and I really feel passionately about this.  OzzyWe want all cats and kittens—and dogs and puppies, too—to have loving homes with warm beds and lots of treats (Ozzy threw that part in)!  Don’t forget to check back next week to see what’s new in the “Cat’s Eye View”!

Love and purrs,
Kobe and Ozzy
