Momma Cat Adopts Orphaned Puppy.
Bambi, a Chihuahua/Shih Tzu mix puppy was born on October 8th. His mother died during delivery and Bambi was the only surviving puppy. The owner bottle fed Bambi for a few days but wasn’t able to keep up with it and needed help, so she brought him to the Cleveland APL. As the survival rate for bottle-fed orphans this young is pretty low our veterinarian decided to have our staff see if Mrs. Rabbit, a stray who had just come in with her kittens Thumper and Friend Owl, would allow the puppy to nurse. And what you see in these videos is the wonderful outcome.
Mrs. Rabbit and kids have been in one of our wonderful volunteer foster homes since October 12th and came back in this week for a check-up. They’ll be going back to their foster home for another 3-4 weeks until everyone is old enough and big enough to be spayed or neutered and go up for adoption. Bambi, the pup, is already spoken for, but the very special Mrs. Rabbit, and her kittens will be looking for loving homes.
Bambi’s story is quite a testimony to theunconditional love and spirit our animals friends are able to share with each other and with us. Our shelter is filled with compassionate people who have dedicated their lives to saving the lives of homeless animals … and now a very, very special and selfless cat is doing more than her part to help an orphaned puppy … yet she has no idea what all the fuss is about! It just doesn’t get much better, does it?!
