Highway, a 6-year-old German Shepherd mix, came to the Cleveland APL from the Ashtabula APL through out dog transfer program. Highway was hit by a car, his leg was shattered, and he needed the care the APL’s medical staff could provide. Highway’s leg needed to be amputated. The surgery took 3 hours, and Highway needed lots of follow-up care to keep his wound clean. However, losing a leg has not slowed Highway down at all. He now lives with his loving adopted mom and has a best friend, a young German Shepherd, who Highway can out run!
